i know this has been probably beat to death in here but i searched and didnt find any thing on it, maybe its cause i was searchin wrong who knows? any ways i am installin the heated mirrors on the wifes dually, it is a 2002, now my question is is there a output on the defroster switch in the factory harness that i could use to fire a relay to turn the heat on and off on the darn mirrors, i dont want it to stay on all the time and make the mirrors all dirty, and i really dont want to add another switch some where ( i kinda like the really clean look) so my options are kinda limited i think, maybe im over lookin somethin if so let me know please.
i just was thinkin that when the defroster is on would be a great time to have the mirrors heat up?
i believe my truck must have a temp sensor to kick them on and off!
they have a timer in the switch.
I haven't seen the back of the rear window defrost switch, which has the same kind of timer.. but you should be able to hook in there.. to fire another relay
if they have a timer then that would mean they go off at a predetermend time frame! I believe I remember mine being on while I was driving. as well. Just wondering I dont know how they work myself but would like to know. since mine stayed on during cooler temps I thought they where temp sensored activated.
NO, there is no sensor, switch or anything else on a pre 08 SD truck to operate the heated mirror option. They are on anytime the truck is on. I don't know of a way you can tap into the defroster "circuit" as I dont' think there really is one. Most guys who want to control them add another switch. I have the mirrors on my truck but have hooked up any of the additional electronics mostly because I haven't taken the time to track down the wires and I'm too **** just to "hook it up" I spent months just finding the right terminals to go into the factory connector so I could run the wires straight to that.
If it were me, and I haven't found a switch I like, but I would add a heat switch just above or below the factory power mirror switch.
