i have an fx4 so i know its got at least limited slip rear, which works great. spins both rears all day long as expected. but why is that when im in 4wd i still only get power to ONE rear and the opposing front. i would excpect just one front. i dont think any of the front axles have limited slip. but the rear is what i dont understand.
just a bunch of little clutch discs. problem is, they are designed to slip at times to prevent wheel bind-up on the pavement.
so for the clutches to grab, you have to have some wheel spin. then the clutch faces grab each other with all the friction and you get both tires spinning.
when in 4x4, engine power is split 50/50 front and rear. this lowers the wheel speed on all corners...so it's harder to get the necessary wheel spin to let the LS grab
try it out in 4x4lo. alot easier to get wheelspin there, and I'll bet you notice the rear LS works better
