Just got back from trip to FLorida. Over 1000 miles round trip.
Averaged 20 MPG over the entire trip which includes 3 days of in town driving.
Average speed on the highway was 70-75 MPH.
My truck is a 2009 F150 SCREW, 4x4 with 5.4.
It has the 3.31 gear ratio.
I was very pleased with the performance on this trip. Glad I went with the higher speed ratio. I Feel the transmissions more then compensates for the higher gears.
Never had a full size truck get mileage this good. Had a Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder, 5 speed that would barely get 23 mpg and was the biggest dog I have ever had.
Very pleased with this new Ford truck. No complaints yet.

I have the same truck only a SCAB instead of the SCREW. same gear ration and at 70 MPH 1600RPM it runs 24MPG. towing the 10K 5er runs 13MPG
in Tow Haul mode 2000RPM. Plenty of power pulling which proves you do not need 3:73 for towing.
How is your mileage so high? I have an 09 Screw w/ 3.55 and the best I see is 15ish @ 75-80. I have 6K miles on her. Twenties seem high to me...
How many miles on your truck?
I currently have around 5700 miles on my truck.
Not sure why my mileage is higher other than the 3.31 gear ratio. The dealer recommended this ratio and said I would like it. He was right.
I have checked my actual mileage to assure the truck MPG calculator is correct and it have been within .2 each time I checked it.
I have noticed that different brands of gas can effect the MPG by up to 2 MPG. I usually use BP 87 octane.
240 miles each way to Cincinnati & back, 23 there 21 back => just under 22 for the whole trip.. 4.6l 3v , 3.55 rear end, of course this was over labor day wk end so I kept her on cruise <72mph
I fully expect to see Ford make a broader use of the higher gears once the 5.0L and 6.2L engines come to market. The MPG's sound great! I'll probably get the 3.55's when I get my truck as I'm waiting for the new motors.

How many miles on your truck?
DBLX
There is probably a 10% difference in engine load between 70 and 75 and again between 75 and 80.
If you stick to under 70 you'll see much better fuel economy.

That's good mpg but with that rear axle ratio towing won't be great. Sure it will tow but it will be shifting all of the time. A long trip towing would wear you out.

Not completly true, I have the same gears,3:31 and getting good milage and it towes 10K 5er like a dream. use tow haul and it does not shift all the time.
