Exhaust Pipe Size

Anyone know what the stock exhaust pipe size is for a 1996 F150XL 2wd with a 4.9l?
im thinking about getting a turbo thrush muffler because the stock exhaust is just way too quiet for me (you can hear the belt whine, and no real engine sound) and i just want to make sure i get the right size so that i dont have to run a bunch of adapters and stuff.
Thanks!

The turbo thrush muffler is pritty much a better flowin stock muffer, no real sound difference from them. At least when ive used them. If anything a nice magnaflow will give you nice sound from that I6, not too lound and just nice and mellow. The stock size is 2.5 or 2.25, if you look at the cat it should be 3 comming out of it, and then the stock exhaust should have a reducer. You could cut that off and make it 3" to give better flow.

Just cut out the existing muffler and replace it with straight pipe, that will get you the sound you want and no it won't be too loud.

It would be about as loud as one of the new F150's, just loud enough to tell there is an internal combustion motor under the hood, that's it.

The pipe size is 2.25'' inches.

Don't waste your money on a turbo muffler. Like everyone said, it's not loud. At all. Just delete the muffler. If that is TOO loud, add the shortest glasspack you can find.

The 300 is quiet with both catalytic converters.

Paul's right--I did this exact thing to my 300, except I even dumped it ahead of the rear axle...and it was barely louder than with the muffler and full-length pipe.

The two cats are rather effective mufflers, all by themselves.

I would imagine it would be OD, usually only time ID is used is on clamping points where a pipe is expected to go.

? No, if you have a 2.5" OD exhaust and want to add to it, you'll need a 2.5" ID to fit over it and a clamp. Same goes for other sizes.

FYI if you can, get the bands rather then the u-bolt style clamps. They cost a bit more but are much better.
