'03 Entertainment system

I just took delivery of a '03 EB w/entertainment system. There were no headphones with the truck. According to Ford, they will ship wired headphones to the dealer in a week or so and wireless headphones will be available after Feb 03. I don't know if that means that the wireless ones are backordered, or if the player is changing to accomodate them. Anyone know what brand the DVD player is? Is it possible to use wireless headphones? If so, what is involved? I would like to have wireless headphones so that the kids in the 3rd seat can actually hear a movie.

Thanks,
SGurkins

I believe it's made by Audiovox. When I picked mine up I received a package with 2 wireless headphones and a remote control (all batteries included).

It's a relief to know that they will work without modifying anything. Guess I'll have to wait until Feb.

Thanks for the info.

Nope in the 2003 and up Epxy's the DVD / LCD unit is made by Delphi .. Yup the GM guys ... they won the contract and are supplying the video units .. I know this because I bought the exact unit you 03 guys have on Ebay to retrofit into my 2000 model. Made By Dephi, Inc. right on the DVD player ...

The 01 and 02 units were Audiovox .. Same units you buy in the store.

As for the wireless headset part ... The wiring on the unit is made to hook up to the jacks at the rear of the console .. Wired headphones only ... Now I dont know if the newer units next year will be modified of not .. However in a endeavour to make my setup in my Expy as stock as possible, I located a guy in Kentucky I beleive that is selling a bunch of these units .. He has the wiring diagrams for them and was willing to sell me a wireless setup for $125.

Im sure this is just a normal setup you can buy anywhere .. but he has the diagrams to help you do the interface .. Well worth them money to me ... His email is Tunz4Life(No Email Addresses In Posts!) .. Name is Dale i beleive..

Good luck with the new ride!

I have a 03 EXPY also and the wired headphones and remote came with it. The wireless would be more convenient, but the stock ones come with a single wire to the headset preventing tangling. Sounds great through the sound sytem also. My son wants to watch movies in the driveway.

Got the remote, just no headsets. Not a big deal if they are wired. I have plenty of those around the house. I was just hoping to let the kids sit in the back some. I'm going to take it by a local car stereo shop and see what they think is involved in making it wireless. Wired is a problem anyway if more than two kids are riding.

Thanks for all the info!

There is such peace in the car now!!

I would still contact the dealer and ask for them as they come with it. They are very nice and sound good. You paid for them...so you should be given them.

I got the remote, but no headphones. So I ordered a Clarion WH105 Wireless Headphone System. It includes 2 wireless headphones and a RF transmitter that can be hardwired right to the headphone jacks. I just soldered the wires to the back side of the jacks (inside the console) so you don't see the transmitter. They work great. I got them for around $85 from etronics.com.

My dealer delivered the headsets last week. I have to admit that they are nice and the cord is long enough to reach the back seat. I bought two adapters from Radio Shack so that I could plug up two headsets to one jack and it works fine.

However, I am very interested in your solution. Can you provide any details? I went by a stereo shop and they said that they can change it to wireless using a Clarion system, but a transmitter (about 4-5" oval shaped) would have to be mounted on the ceiling to get good reception from everywhere...cost ~$175. Problem with that is that it could interfere with viewing of the picture.

Have you tried your headsets from the back seat? Can you give more details about how/where the tranmitter is located and what was involved? Does the Clarion system that you purchased have good instructions for the way that you installed it?

Thanks for your help.

The Clarion WH105 wireless headphones work by their own radio frequency (RF). You do not need a direct line of site to the transmitter like you do on infrared (IR). With the RF system the transmitter can be conceiled in the console.

You may want to find a different installer if he doesn't know the difference.

You may also add headphones to this system without any loss of preformance.
