Truck Security

I'm looking for suggestions to make my truck harder to break into. So far as this is concerned it's a stock 87 crew-cab with power locks and windows in front but not back.

I haven't tried it yet but assume my truck is real easy to get into for anyone with a little skill, either with a slim jim, or popping the wing window latch.

Has anyone out there done anything to there truck to make this harder on a would be thief?

What engine? If gasoline of some sort, trip the inertia switch to kill the fuel pumps. May wanna wire up a kill switch for the ignition coil as well. If you wanna be real sneaky pull the rotor from under the dizzy cap.

On my old Chev I had a tiny switch in the engine bay that killed power to the ignition coil and diverted it to the air horns compressor, which is one real loud mother - no shutting it off either, unless you know where the respective switch is. I used to leave the doors unlocked, with absolutely nothing valuable inside that could be taken without special tools. Worked like a charm, especially considering how both me and the neighbor had firearms and the police response time was very undesirable for the burglar

Really tho, there are many things you can do to prevent your truck from being stolen. Preventing a break-in tho, that's a whole different story, not too much you can do about that unfortunately, not to my knowledge at least.

Good ideas, I should wire my dome light to my horn.

I'm not worried about the truck itself getting stolen, but about the stuff in and on my truck disappearing.

A shotgun, and good neighbors who also have shotguns, would be your best bet. Flood lights on your property help as well. And I'd imagine a sign informing potential perpetrators that trespassers will be shot, and survivors will be shot again

Yes, Yes, got the shotgun covered, but I'm in an apartment and the neighbors are the thieves. I'd put signs on the truck but I don't want to let them know that there's a gun to be stolen. Around here car alarms going off are as common as rap music, and $5000 wheels on a $500 car. But I'm really liking the idea of wiring up the horn to go off, a dixie horn would really stand out, in a sea of wailing alarms. And I'm almost never far from my truck.

I wired my aftermarket alarm to my air horn and compressor to make it stand out. Ive seen people stuff radios and whatnot into their gloveboxes and lock them, people bolting a safe/lockbox in the back seat/storage area. I like the inertia switch idea which would be good for hours of downtown parking.

As they said, im sure its impossible to make your truck break in proof but you can deter by making it not worth their while once they do get in.

You could always dissable all the locks and put in a set of pop locks, but then they will probably just brake a window to get in
