Hey guys, I am looking to put a remote starter in my gf's nav and was thinking about the Viper 5701 2-way system. I have plenty of electrical/electronics experience so the actual install im not worried about, however I was wondering what all I will need besides the 5701 system (e.g. bypass module, adaptor harnesses etc)
Thanks.
I posted this origionally in the expy/nav forum but it was suggested that I should put it up in here.
i just had the 5901 installed and didnt need anything extra but i dont have the chiped key and was told would need a bypass module if that was the case. great system!
this is why i had it installed, they know what theyre doing ..... i have no idea how to install the thing. i went with their recomendations and am very happy. sorry im not more help.
Your vehicle will require a bypass module. The Viper 5701 has a docking port on it to accept the CANMAX400DEI. The bypass module will take the place of a door on the brain. This module must be pre-programmed for your vehicle and cost you around $60 or more. I never use it for the Fords since we only need to control the key but for other vehicles such as GM or Chryslers this module will control most functions such as lock/unlock, factory alarm arm/disarm, key bypass, trunk, door sensing and so on.
I recommend the XK04/PKFM (same model). It hits you around $45+ and comes pre-programmed for your vehicle already. There are ten wires on this plug but only need six wires to connect on this unit. The Red goes to 12 volts constant. The pink goes to ignition. The black goes to ground. The Viper will have a status output wire on it (blue wire) and you will connect the brown lead to it. The only two wires left are a pink with white stripe and a green wire. These two wires will be connected to the plug at the PATS key ring around the ignition. All thats left is to program it to the vehicle. If it's a 97 to 02 Navigator then only one key is needed to program it. If it's newer then you will need two keys to program it. Don't have two keys then you have to have one made.
