I should know the answer to this but it has been a long day and I am very tired. I changed the right rear rotor and pads tonight at work and drove 12 miles home. By the time I got home, that rim was hotter than the other side's rotor. I can't imagine how hot the new rotor was if it made the rim that hot. I'm thinking there is a problem. It's been too long since I have done brakes. The caliper went on snug but I did not have to force it. Any ideas or is this normal for a new rotor?
How do you know? You said you had a hard time pushing the caliper back. Hoses often fail where a small flap of rubber on the inside acts like a check valve and won't allow pressure to release.

Perhaps. I will have to do a little more digging I guess.
Sounds like a frozen piston. Buy a new caliper and be done with it. I've replaced the rears in mine and will be doing the fronts tomorrow. It takes longer to bleed the system than it does to replace the caliper.

I did the driver's side a few months ago. I hate to replace the caliper and find it was a hose like someone else mentioned.
You've got a 9 year old caliper. If you have already had one frozen odds are you will have another if not all of them. Have you changed your brake fluid or is it 9 year old fluid? I think if it was a hose you would have bigger issues. Also I was under the impression that you should replace both calipers at once. When my right rear was frozen up I did both. Cheap insurance for something as critical as brakes.
I've never changed the fluid and I've had it for 4 years. I've been planning on changing it recently but just haven't done it yet. When I apply the brakes, there is a slipping right before I come to a complete stop almost like I am slipping on ice. That has been going on for a few weeks and the brake caliper was only last night. I think the "slipping" may be fluid related.
