OK I have my replacement transmission in the truck , 1996 F150 4x2 6 cylinder E4OD auto and the electrical connector is different that goes into the solenoid valve body what do I do now ? the recycle yard swore up and down that they were the same the pins are in the right places its just the plastic piece that is different
does the new trans have the same case as the old one, by this i mean does it have the long extruding lines running from the bell housing all most to the tail housing that almost look like cooling fins? if it does not then its not an e4od.
google e4od, lots of pics on the net of what the trans is supposed to look like.
there was some update to the e4od in 95 or 96 but i dont know if the solenoid pack connector was changed. i just got thru last week going thru everything i could find on this trans as i bought a new to me truck with a bad one in it. supposed to be a really good trans if all the other stuff on the truck is working correctly. only thing that destroys them is heat. i bought a huge cooler to add to mine when it goes back in.
I just replaced my 95 f-450 E40D with a 93 model. I had the same problem, I have now been told that the connector was changed in 95 as the protection diods were in the transmission prior to 95 and moved to the ECM in 95. The plugs were changed to protect from a no protection situation from occuring by putting a newer transmission in a pre 95 truck. My truck backed out of the shop and went forward about a foot and now wont move.
I think the only thing I can do then is have them send a 1996 solenoid valve body to me then , they should interchange . I wonder if you burned out a diode in your trans , I can see them on my old valve body when its out .
There are 2 E4OD solenoid packs with different connectors...... 1989-1994 early and 1995 and up. The difference is the diode is more upstream in the late version. The connectors are different. The early external harness connector has clips on each of the wide side of the conector to grip on to the solenoid connector, the wall of the connector is about 1/4 inch thick. The late external connector 1995 and up is a thin wall, pencil lead width and one side is smooth and the other side has a clip to hold on to the solenoid pack connector. SOMETIMES when the late external harness is disconnected and pulled offI, a small insert from the solenoid pack comes with it.... check the xternal connector, it should be a thin wall, one piece plastic....if it it wide about 1/4" and two pieces, just remove the insert. I have a picture of both of connectors but I do not know how to post them..... email me at auto_trans8@hotmail.com Hope this help.
