The late 70's, maybe early 80s Lincolns had Saginaw (Chevy) pumps. The reservoirs are different, but the pumps themselves appear to be the same betweern Lincoln and Chevy(except for the change to metric threads at some point.

I had one on my '78 F-series, so you're probably right. I do tend to stick with '80s parts when it comes to cheap mods with factory parts tho, as those seem to be very easy to find about everywhere, not so much the case with the '70s vehicles. Besides a Saginaw pump will not fit the brackets made for the Ford pump, if you have a small-block engine you can use brackets from a certain E-series van, but with a diesel (like me) you're either stuck with the Ford pump, or converting to the Ford-mount Saginaw pump made by Cardone, or you have to fab a one-off setup on your own - modding the factory pump was easiest for me, altho I have to admit I'd like to hear from someone who runs the special Cardone pump...

Could you get the bracket off a diesel van? I did not pay attention to the diesel vans, so I do not know the steering pump set up.

IIRC only the 300 and 302 vans used the Saginaw pump.

The one I got it from had a 351w. Per RockAuto, the Diesel vans also had the Saginaw.

That's odd, which years diesel vans? I'll have to check on it next time I'm at the junkyard, but I really don't remember seeing a Saginaw pump in a diesel van...

Hi,
I am new to the board and I'm bringing a 1985 F150 back to life after sitting for 6 years. I just wanted to say what a great job you did posting your work... the pics... the write-up... this is THE way to do a forum like this. So helpful when we share info so clearly like this with our fellow enthusiasts. I hope everyone takes a cue from you.
Tim

1986 Ford F150 4x4 brakes do not bleed

I am very new to this website and didn't know where else to start.
I experienced a leak in the front brake line and replaced the front and rear brake metal lines along with the master cylinder. I bled the MC and installed it. I can not get any fluid to come out of the rear lines at all. I can build some pressure on the brake system with the truck off but when it is running I hear a hissing and the pedal goes all the way to the floor. I believe I have a power booster system (it looks about the size of a radar detector with a red light that comes on everytime I press the brakes...the hissing seems to be coming out of it)
I am not sure if there is an obstruction in the line or not.
Anyone out there that can point me in the right direction?

Radar-detector-sized thing with a red light is what made me ask about a diesel engine, the
description of that device has me flummoxed.

Pictures are helpful....
