so i know ford bought the cummins motor when dodge was supose to get mercedes motors. so is this new 6.7 motor really a cummins motor, with ford new add ons???
i cant find any info to say that it is, pls help me out
I'm pretty sure you can still order a Cummins in a 2011 as long as it's in a F-650 model. The medium duty trucks have offered a cummins option for years.
Otherwise, the 6.7 is a radical new design produced in house by Ford. If you read some of the articles here, you'll see how this engine is designed different from a standard diesel. It looks more like a ground up diesel design instead of a gasser design adapted to diesel. As mentioned, you'll also notice it is a V-8 design, not the I-6 design by Cummins. (even though an inline motor would have been nice).
Ditto what Chris said. The Cummins is the only engine in the 650 / 750 series now since CAT is out of the OTR engine business. Ford doesn't own Cummins and the 6.7, as was said above, is a Ford in-house design.
If Dodges dont have Cummins in them in the future who would buy them? NO ONE
I mean thats one of the few good things Dodge has got going for them is the Cummins reputation.
I believe Dodge will continue to have the Cummins engines as long as Fiat pays Dodge's overdue bill to Cummins. Fiat doesn't have anything stateside right now and I would think that they would want to stick with what works instead of trying to develop a diesel for the U.S. truck market.
I also doubt very seriously that Dodge will have a Mercedes diesel in them. Daimler severed their ties with Dodge / Chrysler. Fiat is now working on a van to replace the Sprinter as Daimler isn't going to sell them to Chrysler any longer. If there are any ties left between Daimler and Chrysler, they are very, very few and will be eliminated pretty soon.
As far as I know it will. I haven't read that much on it but from what I'm seeing it will which makes sense since Daimler owns Freightliner. They also own Western Star.
cummins is and old reliable american diesel engine maker that are used in various truck, heavy equipment applications as well as military and marine applicationsalso generators and big pumps . they will do allright even if they dont sell to any pickup manufacturer. very reliable except like all the new engines emission stuff has caused them problems to.
I would buy another ford diesel if it had a cummins. After many ford diesel failures I stay away from 6.0 diesel and their new so called upgraded version. I'm a ford guy just not a diesel guy. Never had a ford diesel survive over 130,000 miles without a engine change. My dodges do well in cold weather a lot better than the fords. My last ford cost me 60,000 in repairs after warranty. This is not including lost jobs and other related financial deductions. One heck of a business expense. Like the trucks not the diesel's. I know I'm gonna catch some flak but you weren't paying the bills. These trucks were maintained properly and serviced as your suppose to.
