Fe Blocks
I have a basic question for ya’ll. Are all fe blocks the same. I have been told that there is a difference in the motor mounts. Some Fe are for cars and others for trucks.
I was competing an engine for my truck some years ago and this older bench racer told me to be careful about choosing blocks. I had bought a block from a junk yard and was rebuilding it while I still drove the truck.
Well the block and motor mounts fit so I was relived. But the question has all way been at the back of my head.

They are not all the same. The engine mount change was somewhere around '63 iirc, which I probably don't.
They are cast for different bore sizes as well. You can't take a 4" 352 block and bore it to a 4.23 427 bore or even a 4.13 406/410/428 bore.
And 427 blocks, and some 406 blocks are different, with provisions for cross-bolted mains.
The most common, the 360/390, are the same.

Yes I have seen the different bolt patterns with the motor mounts between 2 and 3 bolts. The newer FE trucks had 2 bolt and the older FE cars have 3 motor mount bolts. But will the older pattern mount up to newer perches, IDK.

Wrong, the old original pattern is two bolt for cars from day 1 of the FE engines back in 1958. The reason for the change to 3 bolt was that it was felt that 2 bolt was not strong enough for the trucks.

Also the 410 IS the same as the 360/390 bore.

Why on earth would Ford build car engines with 3 bolt mounts and trucks with 2 bolt mounts? Just not gonna happen.

Got me looking and the block I have in my car is a 68 and it's a 3 bolt, the 67 galaxie called for that one. The D4TE block I have is a 2 bolt and that is obviously out of a pickup. I thought the only ones that had the 3 bolt were the FT blocks but guess thats not right
