67-72 bed at pick-n-pull (shortbox)

There is a nice 67-72 shortbox at the pick-n-pull in Windsor, California. About an hour north of San Francisco on US 101. The bed is sitting on a 68 F100 but appaears to be off of a 71-72. It is white in color. The floor was a little wavy but I didn't see any rot. Just a small amount of surface rust starting to form under the pass side bump. Their price was @ $200. No tailgate but there was a decent rust free 67-72 tailgate laying in the back of another truck.

my pick and pull charges $150 for a bed with no tail gate. so it may be a good deal. i would also look at the back corners (underneath where the corner and the bed side come together) i have seen a lot go bad in that area too.

Our pick-n-pull chart says 179.95 plus their environmental fees and so forth.

That bed down here in SoCal would go for $500-$750, depending...

Replacement bed

Hi, I am new to Ford trucks. Just picked up a 71' F250 Camper Special. Would a bed from a newer truck fit on this one. Maybe from a late 80's to early 00's? Current bed has pretty bad rust on the seams. Thank you.

Body lines are different, can it be made to work if you don't care, yes.

The shortbed is the same 1967/72. The various moulding types, marker lamps are the only difference.

I was thinking it was off of a 71-72 because it has the side marker lights at the ends of the bumps, my 68 F100 Ranger only has reflectors down lower. I'm not sure of the exact year they started getting the side marker lights.

1968.

But the marker lights, whatever side/tailgate mouldings the truck might have doesn't change the fact that the bed is the same 1967/72.

If you bought new sheet metal from the dealer (quarter panels, tailgates), all the holes for any marker light screws, and bulb sockets, and holes for moulding clips had to be drilled out.

Thanks for the info Bill. They (side marker lights) may have been an option in '68, because mine doesn't have them. Also, was the "Custom" trim level introduced in '68?

But Bill, You are the one that has beat the rest of us up over the exact differences.

Thanks for softening up some.

Best way is to buy a 73-79 donor that has the engine and tranny in it that your truck has or that you want to have when complete.

Don't know where you got your info, but you can buy a donor for $300-800.00 sell parts that you don't need and yours be -0- in cost. I have done this more than once so I have a clue.

You need the donor so that you have all the small pieces that will be needed.
