Anyone see the article in Diesel World, Dec 2009, on the new 6.7 powerstroke that ford has been working on for the last 4 years. Not any info on any numbers yets, but some info on technological advancements they are putting into this motor.
It all sounds great, and I hope Ford pulls through with a motor with good numbers, and improved reliability as well.
I heard that the numbers were going to be around 375-400 and 700-750 respectively. I also noticed that they improved the tranny(it's now the 6R140) and that when you hit Tow/Haul mode, the turbos act like a brake, just like we have done with SCT programmers(and equilivant).
Also it looks like they made it to handle B20, so we shouldn't have to worry about warranty denial based on that B5 crap anymore.
I have actually really thought about getting one of those even though that would violate my "don't get the first year" rule that I have.
I believe I may be looking into to getting the first year of one of these ( Maybe ), I believe that ford did make improved reliability issues from the 6.0 to the 6.4, and I hope they continue and even futher improve as well in this 6.7. I see they have gone back to a single turbo which is a good and have done some improvements on quicker spooling on the low end, as well as good airflow on the high end.
My bumper to bumper ESP runs out in Jan. of 2012. Dec. is a slow month for car sales so me thinks Dec. of 2011 might be a good time to go shopping if the drive train is as good as I hear it should be.
Single turbo with two compressor wheels. Exhaust exits into the valley of the V instead of the outer sides. EGR before the cooler instead of after. Lots of changes, looks different for sure!

Looks a lot like the 4.5 duramax. Pretty neat.
BTW diesel power had a full write up on it and a walk through the motor. Its about 4 pages I believe. Issue should still be on newstands
Well technically I would not say it is twin turbo, it has a pair of compressor wheels that are coupled together on a single shaft driven by the turbine. I understand it suppose to be some what like a twin turbo system, just all in one unit though.
gah, i just watched all the videos. now i'm feeling a certain tightness in hte crotch of my pants...
I freaking wish they'd bring hte Excursion back, and toss one of those engine/trans combo's in it. The ultra-suv. It's what I need for what I do, which is commute to/from work 5 days a week, haul kids and misc family around, get groceries, then on the weekends hook to a 6k trailer, or strap to a stump of a tree that needs to come out, and feel my diesel roar. Why do they assume that the need is not there? I've never bought a vehicle new off the line, but if they came out with the diesel excursion in 11 or 12, i'd buy it in a heartbeat.
If not, I'll keep driving my 04 Excursion for the next 300k miles, and say screw you to all the jetson cars flying around in 20 years.
I like the fact that you can hook up any heavy duty transmission to it. It would be sweet to have a thirteen speed auto shift in a pickup. Then the dura $#its would be crying.

I too would love the option of the Excursion now that I have a growing family. I'm interested in a used Excursion, but I don't want a 6L that I would have to build back up to gain reliability and the years with the 7.3 are just getting too old. I can understand why Ford abandoned the Excursion line, they were only selling around 20,000 units a year and with that line dedicated to Superduty trucks, they could sell a whole lot more.
I do hope that this engine turns out to be everything that they claim, I'll be ready in another 2 years if I haven't replaced my 6L with a Cummins by then. This engine sounds good by new EPA standards.
