the main reason not to switch to syn oil on an older engine is the leaks it may produce. syn oil is thinner and runs easier so in an older engine that may drip a bit here and there with regular oil with syn oil it could really pore out. other than that there is no problems.
i agree about the fram filters as well. buy a motorcraft and forget it.
To use Rotella in a gas engine sounds like a bad choice. Just get a bad feeling about it. As for Fram, thanks, but no thanks on that chinese junk. It's only a matter of time before Harbor Freight starts selling them. A good quality 5w30, which is already a semi-syn oil [the 5w part] will work just fine. Too many miles to bother with now.
The only thing I'm going to say is I've noticed my oil stays cleaner a LOT longer when I use a WIX filter. With a fram it would be black at 1000 miles but when I use a wix it still looks good even at 3000.
i havent seen any other filter on the market made even remotely like the k&n filter in 15years selling parts. im sure someone with enough time could find that tidbit on the net somewhere.

I thought maybe WIX made them. I have always had good luck with them, but I guess i've never had bad luck with any oil filter so....
hey dude, as Ford certified tech, i wouldnt recommend swiching to synthetic, as odds are that its had conventional oil its whole life and you dont wanna risk potentially creating a leak. i would use conventional oil and preferable a motorcraft filter..about 6 quarts for the strait 6's. good luck
While many synthetics use a cracked base oil, the cracking process itself does not make the resulting product synthetic by default. There are plenty of non-synthetic 5w30 oils.
Dont steer away from rotella t it lubricates way better and has alot more zinc in it than other oils it is also gas rated too some use in there motorcycles when crane cams was in buisness thats the only oil they would warenty there cams with i think thats for a reason also I use 15w-40 late spring, summer and switch to 10w-30 late fall, winter I just dont trust that thin 5w-30 and i use a fleetguard lf697 (motorcraft FL299) just higher gpm filter its a larger version of FL1A Truck loves it
