Electrical problem??????

Ok to start this out I have a 2005 F350 Crewcab dually. It is a FX4 package as well as a conversion package on it form Eclispe Sport Trucks. The problem I am running into now is whenever I push un the tow/haul button the light on the dash starts to blink after bout a min of it being turned on. The truck runs and drives great with it off and when it is on. It did slam into 1st gear coming to a stop one time when I was doing a test drive after changing 2 Fuel injectors. Anyways, the truck has gone thru 3 alternators in less than 2 years and now the brake lights come on whenever they feel like it. Even when the truck is turned off and put away for the night. Took it to the Ford dealler and they said that they found burnt clutch shavings in the oil. Its an automatic trans. They said that we needed a new trans due to that but everything checked out fine when connected to the computer for the trans. Took the truck home without changing the trans due to it driving fine. Took it to AAMCO trans and they said that the oil loked awesome. No burnt clutch material or burnt oil. They started to look further into it and they believe that it is an electrical problem not a trans problem. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?? Sorry fo rthe length of this post.

Can't comment on your problem but I do have my doubts on AAMCO's ability to troubleshoot or anything else on a torqueshift tranny.

Would agree with comment on AAMCO....ask Mark K. about the Torqshift....I would be very careful about who I left open her up. As for the other issues...sounds like a classic electrical gremlin issue. You will need to get the wiring diagram for the circuits you described...tail lights, brake lights, transmission sensor signal, Tow/Haul indicator lamp then run everything to ground. You're shorting out somewhere, either a short to ground (something DC to ground....copper to steel) or short to power (something DC to DC...copper to copper connection). It could even be something as crazy as a loose or corroded connector (bulb socket, etc..) good luck with your hunting. You may want to run a parasitic draw (battery drain test). Anything over 40mA after everything is shut down (between 20 min to 1 hour) depends on how long it takes for modules to go to sleep.

Thankfully they didnt open her up. All they did was drop the pan on it. They seen the oil was good and began the troubleshooting process of it being electrical. I am usually very, VERY picky on where my baby goes to get fixed. The only reason why I cant look for myself is due to the fact I am working in Iraq as a civilain contractor and not at home.
