Some time ago I shared with y’all the story of My Old Gal (1984 F150 4X4) and told you the plans I had for the ALL NEW 1982 FORD F100 … I was putting together with parts from my old Mule.

anyoldways … I’m putting some of the finishing touches on the ALL NEW 1982 FORD F100 today. I was going over tail lights and the harness back there … somebody had cut into it and “spliced” in lights for a trailer …. Also the license plate lights weren’t working.
<o></o>
So I’m cutting out about a MILE of old electrical tape and bad connections … and I come across a male and female “bullet” style plug in connector …
<o></o>
What the heck is this I wondered … I didn’t have nothing like it on my 84. … so I followed the wire a bit …
<o></o>
… And there it was … not only did the 82 have a license plate light on the bumper … it also had a license plate bracket AND light UNDER the bed … on the left side just behind the bottom of the tail gate!
<o></o>
I guess Ford put it up there in case the truck sold without a rear bumper.
<o></o>
Who’da thunk??? Suspenders AND a belt!!!
<o></o>
Looks like me and this old guy is gonna get along just fine.
<o></o>
I’m thinkin’ about calling my NEW mule …

Bob.
I guess I drove it about 20 miles.
I got a number of modifications and still a couple of hook ups to do ...
BUT IT RAN LIKE A BRAND NEW FORD!!!
I can't tell you how nice and tight it felt!!!!
Yep.
Me and Old Bob are gonna get on JIST FINE!!!
Even though I got about a page and a half of stuff I still need to do ...
Old Bob runs and rides like a brand new truck.
THIS WAS A LOT OF WORK!!!
I pulled the engine trans, front and rear diff out of both trucks ... cleaned, checked, greased EVERYTHING ... and installed it all into the 82.
New Clutch Pressure plate, throwout bearing. New Shifter bushings including the one in the trans.
New brakes, rear wheel cylinders, Master cylinder, power booster, front and rear shocks ... the ball joints and tie rod ends were ok ... I replaced a couple of split grease boots.
The old owner of the 82 had put a new dual exhaust system on it ... I left it in place ... and put on a couple of new clamps and hangers.
The radiator is over sized ... for an 84 with A/C ... and its only about a year and a half old ... it went in with a flex fan ... all new hoses and all new clamps.
I pulled the electrical harness out of the 84 and pulled the one in the 82 apart ...
I installed the instrument panel from the 84 ... I took about a foot of the 84's instrument panel's plug and harness ... clipped off the 82's plug ... and soldered/heat shrinked the the harness from the 82 with the section from the 84 ... this gave me about a foot longer reach if I want to pull out the panel and redo or install something. It also gave me a chance to check all the wires and connections up there.
I installed red lights through out the dash ... it came out BEAUTIFUL!!! THANKS CURT!!!
I've re-wired the system so the lights turn off with the key ... just like a NEW truck ... by moving wires around the fuse panel ... I was able to arrange a 30 amp fused circuit for the lights.
BTW ... I checked all the fuse holder connectors in the fuse panel. I found TWO fried fuse connectors ... one for the radio ... the other for the cigar lighter. I replaced the ends ... and cleaned up the rest.
Under the hood ... I made a new harness for the Duraspark 2 ignition system ... I put male and female GM weatherpack connectors on the harness, the spark box and the distributor. I have extra to make a spare set for emergencies.
The new alternator and new volt regulator got new connectors ... Anywhere I could replace connectors with solder and heat shrink ... It got done. Anywhere I could clean up a connection ... and protect it with silicone grease ... it got done.
I put a new solenoid in with all new connectors. My old starter wasn't all that old ... so I went with it.
Bucket seats from a Bronco II went in ... THANKS CURT ... These are almost a direct bolt in ... only the passenger side ... left front mount had to be modified ... I also had to remove the heat shield below the passenger seat to bolt everything in.
All the interior panels have been cleaned, sanded, filled sanded ... primed and painted. The nicely repaired dash panel with the new center tray ... got painted. Its not in yet cause I got more electrical work/mods. to do. THANKS EM!!!
I put the Class III hitch on the rear and the stepped rear bumper from my 84.
I have a almost new set of "leaf style" helper springs for the rear ... I installed them on the 84 ... but I'm gonna mount them tomorrow.
Like I said ... I still got a bunch of stuff to do ... mostly electrical.
I want to rig a warning light for O/P and Temp ... I got some sensors I'm pretty sure I can work it out.
I want to rig a work light to work in conjunction with the back up lamps ... and put it all on a switch.
Neither truck had a light for the 4X4 ... but the switch is on the trans ... no big deal.
But tomorrow ... I'm building a tow hitch.
I'm thinking tomorrow I just might have to tow my Old Gal over to the scrap yard.
Bob's gonna help.
