Mustang II IFS

I have a Mustang II IFS (years '74 - '78) from Fat Man Fabrications that was installed on the truck when I purchased it. The rotor measures 9.3 inches, the hub 5 7/8 inches, 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern. Calipers are 6 3/4" L x 5 1/2 "W.

Does anyone know if I can upgrade the rotor size without changing the spindle or calipers?

Thanks for any info.

there are a couple of ways to go.

you can use the rotors from a Granada. they are 11" dia and use the same spindle as the MII and same 5 on 4.5" bolt circle. you will need a new calipar bracket that you can purchase at most hot rod shops fairly cheap. most brackets i have seen require the use of the GM A body calipers, but they are very cheap to purchase from any parts place.

or you can go the aftermarket route and get unlimited sizes of rotors to fit. seen them up to 13" dia drilled and grooved.

just about all the larger rotors i have seen require a different caliper bracket and calipers to mate to the new rotor and existing spindle.

check out Heidt's website as it has a fairly decent tech section on upgrading brakes. also check out some of the brake speciality sites (like Baer brakes, Stainless Steel brakes) for kits available for this front end or even ebay site.

Thanks guys for the info.

The current setup uses the stock Mustang II a-arms. I"ll cross check the part numbers as suggested. My main concern is to be able to use the current spindles. If I have to buy new brackets for the calipers and not the calipers themselves, then that would also cut down the cost of the upgrade.

Not sure on how much more braking power/rotor life the larger rotors would provide, but the current setup looks too puny on a truck.

Looks to me like everything is stock MII stuff. The fatman kit uses the Granada rotors and GM calipers as talked about earlier. I will look at my paperwork as much of the stuff in the fatman kit I got was off the shelf stuff. I seem to recall a ball joint or maybe wheel bearing spacer involved.

You have stock MII components. They may have used a certain amount of Fatman parts but not a complete kit. As said above they use Granada rotors & GM calipers. According to my info from my kit the spindles are stock and the rotor is bolt on. They use an ECI 716 Brake Kit for mounting. The 1 drawback is the inner brake pad has 2 washers welded to the back because the Ford rotor is thinner than the GM. Minor in my opinion. I have more info regarding part numbers but alot of it doesn't name the manufacturer. Let me know if you need copies.
