Studdering/no power

When I start up cold it runs real rough if I do not let it warm up for 5 mins. she will not respond to the throttle regardless of how much I give it she won't go, just limps along, once it's warm two mins. later she get full throttle reponse. It will respond to throttle in neutral but not in gear. Then every so often it will studder at an idle almost stall for a 1/2 sec. or the rpm will jump 100-200 the rpm jump will happen at idle and at speed. I just did the filtres both oil and fuel, I run conditioner/cetane boost with every tank. I cleaned the egr valve about 20.000. miles ago. It gets highway run every time it goes out not much idle time except in town grocery geting and stuff.

I have pretty much the same truck, with about 20k less miles.... Just today when starting it cold it did a really weird studdering while coming up to idle. I have the high idle mod as well, and upon activating it it studdered up to the high idel RPMs as well. I was going to post to ask about what this could be, but since it's so similar to your prob, I hope you dont mind if i piggy-back your post. I don't have any power loss when it's still cold though--I still have normal throttle response. Today was cooler than it has been, but not "cold" (about 42f this morning).
Anyone think these problems could be the sign of a weak fuel pump? And i believe there are two pumps...? What tests should we do to help narrow down the problem? Anything to check right off the bat?

Thanks all.....

What kind/weight oil and what's the temp outside? When was the last time you had the truck flashed?

15-40 synthetic, it's been around 32 over night and warms to 60-65 during the day it does it regardless of the temp it was doing it last week when we had 75 degree weather. Had the last flash about a year and a half ago. It just started this about 3 weeks ago and seems to be remaining the same or slightly worse. The oil change a week ago did not improve it.

Who makes a 15 40 synthetic?

It was fairly common for my truck to not want to move for a little while when it was cold and not plugged in. I'm guessing it wasn't like this for you last winter?

OK, maybe I'm right on this one.

Bad injectors. At least 2 of them

Just got back from taking it into town no studder no rpm raise or almost stall, ran smooth, still needed about a 2 min. warm up and even then I had to back off the throttle to get it to shift up or it would just get to the shift point and hang there. It only studders and almost stalls some of the time, the wait for it to warm is every time. And yes it did not do this last winter.

IF you have a block heater, plug it in for at least 2-3 hours and see if it still does it. If not then I'm betting injector stiction.

IIRC--the only 15w40 synthetic oil that I know of is Scamsoil.

I have the same problem and have narrowed it down to needing inductive heating flash (at least I hope). Making an appointment soon to get it done at the dealer for about $100.

Let me know if you find out anything different.

OK so plugging it in may help at the warm up end but what about the studder/short stall/rpm jump at the other end when it's warm and running around town?

PS It's semi synthetic "wolfhead oil" On sale at the frieghtline dealer.

What is its API rating? Needs to be at least CI4-plus

The oil exceeds the API rating for all the motor companies including mercedes and volvo. This problem appeared when I was using RotellaT dino oil I don't think this is an oil problem.

It could very easily be an oil problem. One other thing. Since you're in a pretty cold region you might try 0W30 or 0w40 to see if that helps your cold starts. FWIW--I think you have some injectors crapping out.......cold or hot.
