1979 F350 Fleetside

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and had a question about my 1979 F350 Crew Cab. I'm trying to change the existing flat bed to a fleet side. I've already changed my front rotors to accept a single wheel instead of dually and the existing rear drums seem to line up nicely, but I need to get rid of this flat bed and can't seem to find a used F350 fleet side anywhere. Can I cannibalize the bed from an F250 instead?

Thanks

Yes you can use any 133" wheelbase long bed from any 77.5 thru 79 150/250 or 350. You could make earlier beds work but they wont just bolt up like the 77.5 thru 79 beds because the rear of the frames are more narrow than the later trucks.

If you want a Fleetside bed, AFAIK, the only trucks that have them were produced by Government Motors.

Styleside = Ford / Fleetside (gasp) GMC/Chevrolet.

Ronzi: Where did you come up with this frame rail info? It is not correct!

This narrow rear frame rail jazz only pertains to the following:

1973/77 F250 4WD's (High Boys): The rear frame rails are 33 1/2" apart.

Some 1973/77 F350's have these same narrow rear frame rails.

ALL other 1973/79 F100/350 2WD/4WD's have rear frame rails that are 37 1/2" apart.

1977.5: There isn't any such thing according to Ford. This is an enthusiasts term that pertains to F250 4WD's only.

The last High Boy was assembled before serial number Y20,001.

Since Y20,001 occurs mid-model year 1977 (where this 1977.5 jazz comes from), from serial number Y20,001, the F250 4WD's are not High Boys.
