my steering column has got really bad to the point plastic pieces are coming out i am pretty sure its the upper bearing that is gone i took the day off work tomorrow to fix it been calling the local salvage yards and only 1 has one and it's from a auto truck and it's $200 would it still work on my 5 spd truck i know i would have a shifter leaver..
also does anyone know where i could get the bearing i been looking at autozone and what not and can't find them or don't know whats it's called any help would be much appreciated i am really hoping to fix it tomorrow
Ford for $6 each, part # F4DZ-3517-A, F3TZ-3517-A and a ring kit F0DZ-3L539-F that consists of the 2 bushings above the upper bearing, the spring, C-clip and a new bolt for the steering wheel. Kit was $15.
And more that I saved :..
Small upper bearing ford part # F4DZ-3517-A
Large lower bearing Ford part # F3TZ-3517-A
I also purchased a new steering colomn service kit that included the parts that go on after the bearings – before the steering wheel.
Kit includes:
Tolerance ring
Steel upper bearing sleeve
Upper bearing preload spring
Snap ring
If you have tilt steering the heavy spring makes it kind of a pain, but if I can do it anyone
can.
The two bearings list price at Ford dealer cost $7.33 each.
The service kit list price was $22.13
i appreciate it talyn but i gotta try and fix this thing tomorrow i'm gonna call the local ford dealers in the AM and hope they have these parts but with my luck i don't know but i would really like to fix it and thanks for the part #'s action4478 it should make things was easier
well i found all the parts and sorta fixed it i ended up messing up the bushing that came with the kit some i'm gonna have to re do it all over again but it's a lot better than it was it was so bad before it broke all the teeth off the cam that cancels out the turn signal and it broke all the pieces that hook up the cruise control and horn so either i take it back apart and fix it right and not mess up or i find another column but hey atleast it's better and buys me some time but i did end up getting my window replaced and window motor nice to have those back working still got another problem with the engine but thats another post
