hard starting

I noticed lately my truck has a hard time starting, it's not that cold out but it takes a few times trying to get it to start and when it dies you see the bid whie cloud of un burnt diesel, any suggestions, possibble the relays by the fuel filter or maybe glow plugs. It just started doing it.

A couple of things..
Do you need a oil change.?
Check the oil level in the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) after the truck been shut off over night.. It should be about 3/4" from the top..

As it gets cooler if the battery and starter connections are the least bit corroded it will start harder. Take off all the cables and clean good and use an anti-oxident on them. It "could" be glow plugs but do the cheap, easy stuff first to rule that out. Like Clint said make sure the HPOP isn't leaking down overnight.

Also, check your GPR to make sure it is giving the glow plugs a good connection. Usually it is the GPR not the plugs that take a dump on you.
