I don't know about them sitting around in the stores for any period of time. I guess it may depend on your location, but Walmart does sell a great number of batteries. And with the batteries sitting out on the shelf you can also check the production date that is on the battery. Plus at Walmart you don't have to lug the battery all around the store. You can simply enter through the automotive center door, pick out your new battery, pay for it, take it out to your vehicle and set your old core in the service center. No more difficult than walking into your local Auto Zone Parts store. And Walmart stands behind their battery warranty, no questions asked.
Wow, I can't believe I am standing up for Walmart...for the greater part of my life I hated that place!!

I have a Wal-Mart super center like 5 miles away but there is no auto center there. You have to take the core to customer service and go all the way to the back of the store for the battery. Just a pain IMO.

Please tell me this won't be me in the future. Only good thing I have to say about Wally World is that since most people don't share my view of the place the stores I go to are not as crowded.

You are right when you say to check the date before you buy. I was looking at RV batteries in Sams a few years back. Watched the fork lift drop the pallet in the isle. The date on the ones I looked at made them 18 months old when they hit the shelf.

If I were you, I would move, we have 5 of the big Walmart supercenters with in a 10 mile drive. And we live out in the boonies.
As for having to use the Customer Service Center I understand....they use a perfect 1 to 1 ratio....1 Walmart employee to 1 long line of customers.

Kind of off, yet on the subject....Walmart that is. Have you ever listened to the Rodney Carrington comedy piece over on "youtube" about shopping at Walmart? Puts things in perspective.
