Local railroad has reactivated two of its steam locomotives and is running a weekend passenger service with them for the fall color tour season. One is the Pere Marquette 1225 buidlt in 1941 and the other is a newer one buildt in 1945. Is sure cool to see them running.
Dude! We need photos or links! I am a railroad buff. Where are you at in the UP? There was a steam locomotive and passenger cars on a spur at Presque Isle. They were sold years ago. I'm wondering if the Pere Marquette is the one I'm talking about because it was sitting in Marquette on the old LS&I rails.

I am just outside of Cadillac. Trains are coming out of Grand Rapids and run up to Traverse City with a stop at Cadillac. They have also just announced they paln on using them for a Polar express in December to run kids to see Santa. One of those excursions will be into Saginaw.
There is a story on this and pics on the Cadillac news web site for todays issue. Http://www.cadillacnews.com

Okay, thanks! I have only been below the bridge once. To see a movie in Macinaw City while we were staying overnight in St. Ignace.
I'm not sure if it was the Duluth South Shore and Atlantic. This photo was taken in 1974. I wish I had my color slides digitized. I think I have the same locomotive on film in 1984.

Here you are sir. A very detailed history of a tiny railroad company in midcoast Maine called the Belfast and Moosehead Lake RR co. This town borders the town that I grew up in.

PM 1225 has been in fairly regular service since it's restoration in 1988. She was used as the model for the movie Polar Express and provided all of the "train" sounds for the movie.
Here's WIKI: Pere Marquette 1225 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She is often seen together with cousin Nickel Plate Road #765 at gatherings across the country. I'll bet 765 is your "other" locomotive, both are very similar 2-8-4 Berkshire type locos.
Here 1225 "double headed" with #765 in August at Owosso, MI..
Thanks, Michelle! I remember driving past that train years ago and begging dad to stop and let us ride it. We didn't of course. Probably because vacation was over and dad had to get back to work!
