plug it in

When and why would you plug in your diesel. This sounds silly but I usually plug it in all night, once it gets below freezing. That's parking it outside. Now, we will be moving to SW Montana soon from Central Oregon, and I wonder what the rules are there.

I use an outdoor timer for mine and usually plug it in when it is gonna be below 50 degrees F. Using the timer I set it for 2 hours before I ned to start it to go to work. It may not be cold enough at that temp to hinder starting but it does sound better when it starts and I get heat right away.

My block heater doesn't work on the 7.3 (will be fixed before it gets colder) but on the 6.2 once temps get down below 20 at night, then I plug 'er in. Last year I parked out back at school and plugged in in every day for over a month

Last winter, even with temps at 0 for daytime high I drove the burb every day- plug in at school, drive 10 miles home, plug in, next day go to school and plug in again. It was plugged in 24/7 except for about the half hour when I was driving to/from school.

I have heard that if you leave a truck plugged in all night it could cause damage. Any truth to that?
