Pertronics three? Rock-on-ics three baby!!

Well I had the Mallory conversion and was real unimpressed. So when I finished my overhaul/freshenup of my 360

1 ported and shaved exhaust manis.
2 new rockers, shafts. Med pushrod set fit the shave.
3 heads shaved (Calculated 9.0+) compression (probably not quite squish)and valves cleaned. Face cleaned to match manis.
4 cam pulled and mic'd found some kind of RV grind like new/lifters like new. numbered and reused.
5 installed a straight up time set.
6 new fuel pump
7 new oil pump
8 new aluminum radiator
9 new water pump
10 gaskets
11 rebuilt 2v carb and cleaned intake.
12 belts, hoses
13 plugs, wires
14 new dizzy with points, got rid of the mallory.
15 bottom in great shape.
16 engineered dual exhaust for high tourque

Ok Mr Orange has a new hair do! So I wanted a electronic ignition and pulled ther trigger on a Pertronics Igniter3 system with matching Flame Thrower 3 coil.
Installed tonight and I can say without a doubt this system woke up the old boy like a light switch!! Totally impressed. Blew a black cloud out the ***, My timeing was advanced 20 deg, my idle was up 300 rpm. Had to re tune the truck to 16 initial with a total at 36ish. Took it out for a ride and it was music out of a 360.
Pulled up to this guy with a new Ford 150 and he was checking out the old guy with his window down. I pulled even with his window to my chrome outlet and saw him looking Orange out. So I pulled out straight and hammerd the throttle for a second and for the first time ole Orange let out a chirp you could hear for 2 blocks. Then I just blatt blatt blatted away. Well worth all the effort.. Thanks you guys. Man thats real satisfaction!! 50 years old and I'm have the time of my life

Ps This truck was headed for the junk yard just 4 months ago and I bought it for 500 covered in dirt and weeds. Save them Fords boys!

No wonder it squealed a big peel-out....you had "1/3 rd # 2 diesel, 1/3 rd terpentine, 1/3rd atf" on your tires!

Seriously, congratulations! A nice feeling, I'm sure.

Hey great to hear from ya Argess. I got that formula off of this forum and it works. Better than anything I have ever used. As far as the truck goes, well I work as a Instructor in a prison every day and the guys see me as a second chance to get it right (some tough stuff) and this old Ford needs a second chance too. (stress relief for me)
God has been good to me.

My understanding is there are three basic types.

Basic Ignitor: Replaces points for solid-state rock-steady reliability

Ignitor II: same as Basic, but can use a low resistance coil, the type used is factory EI systems, for a hotter spark.

Ignitor III: same as II, but provides multi-sparks, has a rev limiter

And how much control does the rev limiter give the user ? the Crane Xri POS i used to have in the F100 was default 4-6-8k. It did work ok but was a cheap piece o junk imo

Says it's accurate to +/- 50 rpm:

As far as a rev limitier goes, I was thinking of purchasing this as I have only the basic Ignitor:

Pertronix 600 Pertronix Digital Rev Limiter

Well I don't know about the basic or 2 but I did the Mallory conversion and I was not impressed and went back to points. But it was day and night with the ignitor 3. Serious on a 360 it is easy to see a differance. The truck spools up way faster and will even turn the tires now. Should have went with a intake and 4v. The rev limit has 3 settings, 4400 5500 and 6500 (quick settings then you fine tune, LED for feed back) some how you could get it all the way up to 9500 but I wasn't looking at that.
The default is 5500. Super easy to install and looks differant than the 2. I also went with a matching flamethrower 3 coil. It also uses the original rotor and the 2 uses some kind of light emitter. It cost me 121 with shipping and the coil was 38 with shipping. I am very pleased.
As I said after start up my advance was way up as was my idle. Had to readjust the carb. I thought it was going to set leaner but it actually liked it at bout 2.5 turns out. I could have gone further on the initial but I was chicken. I can only imagine what this would do to a nice 390.

That must be some ign. system, unusual to read about that much difference by just upgrading from points.

We need to learn more about it.

When I first installed a basic Pertronix Ignitor, I was able to tell immediately the engine ran differently. Smooth accelration was the difference.

I was used to an engine misfire as being a definate lurch, stumble, whatever. I had read that all engines misfire a certain percentage, but with these single random misfires, it isn't that noticeable. I didn't believe it. I do now.

I would suspect that with the Ignitor III, those multiple sparks per cylinder really reduce the percentage of misfires even further.
