transmission swap
hi my nephew has a 96 explorer, the transmission is bad .he can get a good transmission from a 93 explorer. will they interchange ive been told yes and no thanks in advance for any help

First generation (1991-1994)
Transmission 4-speed A4LD automatic
The Ford Explorer was released in March 1990 as a 1991 model. It was equipped with a 4.0 L 155 hp (116 kW) V6 engine and 4-speed A4LD automatic transmission or 5-speed M5OD manual transmission.
Second generation (1995-2001)
For the 1995 model year, the A4LD was upgraded to feature full electronic controls, resulting in a new transmission family. The two major versions of this new transmission were the 4R44E and 4R55E.
So the answer would be NO, although these transmissions come from the same basic stock they are not interchangeable.
