I have a 99 ranger the trailer wiring that was on it was not working right. I was going to follow the wiring but gave after following it for awile looked like it went all the way up to the front. I just cut it off and taped it up. Here is the problem i bought a wiring kit for it and when I hooked it up I have no turn or brake lights on the truck or plug in. I thought maybe bad kit bought anouther one same thing (when i take it out lights on truck work fine). anyone have idea what it could be
If I had a 99 Ranger I would also have the factory wiring diagrams for it & could tell you for sure.
My guess is that you need to install a "trailer tow left turn & stop relay" & a "trailer tow right turn & stop relay." And also make sure the fuse for these relays is not blown.
Remove the lid from the fuse/relay box under the hood & flip it over. Is there a diagram showing which fuses/relays do what?
I think you are breaking the electrical path to ground when you install the trailer kit.
Do you have the orginal truck wires that went to the trailer tow connector? Should be a white, BN is brown I think BN/WH is brown with a white stripe, YE is yellow, DG is dark green. White was the ground runs to the fuel tank.
There's a connection that connects the tail lights to the wire bundle that runs to the front of the truck. The Trailer Tow Connector wire bundle runs in to the main wire bundle above or in front of this connector, find the old wires and splice into them.
