Can anyone tell me which year this was offered in the F150 and also what was the last year the cable operated speedo was available. I've heard that it was offered in the 1987 and later F250. thanks
I have been told that the ZF was never used in F150's, but I don't know if that is true. The link below gives some information on the trans - just scroll down to the ZF. According to them, it was used in F250 and larger F series trucks from '87 to '94.
The ZF was only used in the F-150 for one year - 1988. Good luck finding one, they are extremely rare. You will have much better luck getting one out of an F-250 or F-350. The cable operated speedometer you will find in 1987 to 1991 2wd versions.
That's correct, the zf is considered a heavy duty tranny and is only used in the f250's and up. That's not saying you cannot not put one in a f150 yourself. They did come behind 351w's and 300's installed in f250's. You need to make sure you get the right one for your engine, since the bellhousing is made with the tranny.

You may be right on this. I looked up a 88 f150 at one site I have, and they do list the zf as an option.

There was a thread about this in the 87 to 96 forum a while back. A user said his father ordered his 1988 F-150 with a 351w and a ZF brand new. I have never seen one personally though. If I do I am definitely taking a pic of the door sticker.
thanks for the info guys. I'm converting my 4 speed to a 5 speed and I really want the ZF. I have searched for a 75 Mile radius and have not been able to find one. I don't want to settle for the m5. What would be the code on the door sticker for a ZF?
