Yesterday, I replaced the K&N with an OEM paper filter. I wanted to get a Motorcraft FA1046, but apparently it has been discontinued. I had to get a Purolator A24378.
Is this true that you can't get the Motorcraft air filter for our trucks anymore?
I'm curious to know if the MC filter is actually made by Purolator. I have heard that it was.
Also, Does anyone know anything about Purolator's Pure One filter? It is supposed to filter and flow better. I read that the media is treated with oil. That is kind of a turn off for me.
I find it hard to believe. I've had pretty good luck finding Motorcraft parts for my older vehicles (unlike some Ford parts). I'm about due for an air filter (Motorcraft is all I run) and I'll definately ask my parts guy.

I don't know a lot about it, other than it being a good filter. I haven't heard anything about them treating the filter media with oil, but I'm not sure why that would be a turn off. You're going to treat it with oil too, the instant you crank the engine after installing it, right, or were you thinking of something else?
I'm sure the WIX and Purolator counterparts are just as good. I would have just preferred to go with Motorcraft. It doesn't really cost any different, so why not? I think its within a dollar of the other. Do you not want to run a good air filter in your truck?
I had a KN in it before. I don't want to fool with cleaning and oiling it anymore. I noticed no gains at all by having the KN except for worse fuel economy. Also, I don't want a filter that lets more dirt in. The stock filter and air box flow enough air for a stock motor.
I always suspected that all these supposed high flow filters let in more dirt.
I know this is from a GM site, but it tells a lot. Also, I have found many other tests on the subject.
