Prepping for body work?

I have a question about what to do for prepping your body for work. I have a 1952 F-1 and it need some patch panels done and some dent repair. I was thinking about getting it media blasted so I could see what all needs to be done at the same time. Is there another way that is better or is that the way it is best to do.

Thanks,
Adam

If you can afford it and find a good vendor that will do it, I think most will agree the media blasting followed by epoxy primer is the best prep. It will let you see exactly what you have to work with and keep it fully rust protected until you get to each area of work. Body filler can be applied directly over the epoxy primer. The expense of the process is usually why other methods are tried.

Building on a budget, I media blasted the hood and doors only and worked them quickly. I had to use a rust converter on several occasions to save what I had done. I wire brushed areas of the cab as I worked them. I used a metal etch primer over bare metal areas while it was indoors and then sprayed everything with a 1K barrier coat primer to drive it around.

After 5 years of putzing with it, it is now all one color of primer. Might just stay that way.
