As of July 2007 Ford stoped suporting map udates for my and everyone elses 2003 through 2006 Expedition. I assume this effects all Ford and Lincoln truck owners. Isn't this against the law or something? I always thought that support was supposed to last longer than 1 year (for owners of a 2006 model). What can I/we do? Who can we complain to?
The company that was suppling them, Visteon, went through bankruptcy and apparenty sold off their Nav business and won't produce any more map updates PERIOD! Navtec, who sold the maps just told me over the phone that we are all stuck - and that updates for this system are no longer supported. I'm being told my/our only option is to buy a new or aftermarket navigation system. I'm a real estate agent. I use my nav system all the time! Does anyone have any info on this?
wouldn't suprise me. the oe navigation is sub-par imo anyways. i had it. even with updates, the system was flawed. i agree that aftermarket is the way to go. imo, eclipse is the best. the new 726 model is sweet, but you are looking at just under $1k on ebay. you can find a nice, used avn 5510, 6610, or 6620 for $300-$500 now. i have the 5510, and i love it. i still have use of my rear dvd and steering wheel controls as well, which is key.

Forgive me if the sounds like a dumb question ... Where would I find information on aftermarket systems that would work with my existing cd, dvd, steering wheel controls, etc? What is eclipse and avn? I assume they are brand names. Is jvn short for something? I have no clue how to research this, but would really like to look into it.

I found the eclipse-web.com web site. It looks like you have the same problem as me. I appears that Eclipse stoped updating their maps (at least the ones on disk or dvd) in 2007. Is this accurate?

i just got the latest update a few months back. almost all nav maps are years behind. the original disc for my 5510 had 2005 info. the newest update is based off of dec 07 info iirc. some of the portable nav devices claim to have 09 map data. my portable i use for work sometimes(navigon), makes that claim. you can then buy an update package from them(navigon) that supplies updates 4 times a year.....but really, how can they get ALL the updates EVERY 3-4 months. plus, the portables are much harder for me to see than my 7" in dash. please let me know if i can assist any more.
pm me for my cell number if it is easier to discuss over the phone for you.
Has anyone on this thread found any devices compatiblwe with 06 expedition that works with rear dvd player and steering wheel controls that is nav and radio?
This is exactly why I'll never buy another car with the factory nav system again. My Wife's '06 has it and compared to aftermarket units it is severely lacking. Also, the updates (when available) were overpriced and, as a factory option, the nav and DVD combo is overpriced as well. My sticker shows $1,995 for the nav and $1,500 for the overhead dvd. $3500 buys a top of the line aftermarket DVD/NAV system, several monitors, amps and all installation accessories.
Nothing will easily interface with the stock DVD player. Your best option is to pull the entire system and see if you can get $500 for it on ebay. There are lots of people on there bent on getting the factory systems rather than aftermarket systems. As far as steering wheel interface almost all aftermarket DVD/NAV systems offer an interface to use the steering wheel controls...Pac-Audio.com Product Details | iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future
