transfer case problems
Any other truck after being locked into 4 lo it should be locked up and not make any noise. Soon as I drive into a little wet clay, it will clunk or make a funny noise whrn engaging the wheels catch traction or spin.
What drive train do you have?
Where is the noise coming from, rear, front or centre?
Is there a vibration, steering wheel or seat?
Are you driving on loose or dry pavement?
Sounds like it may be the transfer case slipping, dis engaging maybe? I was driving on gravel, started to go up an incline and as the front wheels slipped it clunked.
I have had tons of experience with older ford 4X4's. Never heard this before. sounds as if you were spinning your rear tires on ice, then yank the transfer case shifter into 4 Hi..........
It has auto 4. 4 Hi, 4 Lo. I had it in 4 Lo. It even does it in 4 Hi. I could see this maybe in auto 4 because of the different wheel speeds but not when its locked in.
The first diagnostic test is to affirm that you have a steady Bat+ on the brown wire on the T/C (while in 4Hi). You have an electromagnetic clutch pack that connects the front drive shaft which is energized via the "BROWN" wire.
If the +Bat is not constant, look first to a bad/poor connection, then to the GEM.
