windstar swapping in oem cd player

my mom has a 2000 windstar with the 3.8l engine and it has the stock am/fm/cassette unit. she asked me to put in a cd player because she thinks the music on the radio is a bad influence. i saw online that some of the windstars of that year came with cd players and that you can buy used ones that have the af/fm/cd player combo. if i disconnect the stock radio to put a unit with a cd player in it will it just plug right in to a wiring harness that the old radio came out of?

I am not sure about that, but I would recommend you get a whole new aftermarket unit. If something happens to the factory radio, it's expensive to service them, and the aftermarket units are better quality(if you get a good one). And you can get wiring harnesses for your vehicle that will let the aftermarket radio wire into the factory harness. Also most of the new aftermarket units are already setup to play your ipod or other music storage systems, so if you use them, you may find you never really use the cd player much.

the only thing with an aftermarket unit is that i was hoping to avoid having to buy a wiring harness and antenna and find the right fitting trim so the new unit holds in place. with a oem unit i was hoping it would just plug right in and slide right into place. i don't think my mom has any use for an ipod and sound quality isn't a big deal as long as it sounds ok.
