EBPV delete

What exactly does this delete do? I am under the impression that it is only activated during cold starts. Is that correct? Does it have anything to do with overboost, or anything other than quicker engine warm-up?

The reason I'm asking is, I'm doing the turbo pedastal seals, and thought that would be a good time to do the EBPV delete.

If that's true, can someone describe the procedure? It requires drilling and tapping, as well as some kind of freeze plugs or something, correct? Does anyone recall the specifics?

Thak you for your support, FTE family

It is a flap that closes on the exhaust side of the turbo to hold exhaust pressure to help warm up the engine quicker. It has nothing to do with overboosting as far as I know.

Here's what I did with mine.Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - beanhead6D5's Album: EBPV delete

Hope this helps!

EDIT:Go through the pics backwards so they make since.Someone loaded them wrong.

You need a 1/4 tap and a 1/4 plug. You will remove the insides and plug the whole.

It basically removes the system that is notorious for becoming an oil leak over time.

Reps to Brad (beadhead) for the pics.. ohh.. wait.. i'm in timeout.

Also, you may want to look into getting a highflow outlet from clay. It's considerably bigger flowwise. Just a thought.

Good luck!

I see you have a Dp. In case you hadn't heard, there is tune now that utilizes the EBPV as a poor mans jake brake. If you tow it might be worth looking into.

I'm afraid I may have a leak, easier to plug than fix. Though the poor man's jake brake sounds good.

What's involved in fixing a leaky one (oil)?

New o-Rings in it should do the trick. I have heard alot of people that really love there DP engine brake so that maybe something to consider.

What's involved in replacing the o-rings? Just removing the snap ring, pop out the cap? Is there a procedure somewhere? Thanks

I think i seen one on my brother in-laws truck it looked after market. It didn't use the guts of the pedistal. Just the valve and I think the valve was flipped upside down so the linkage was on top and it had a vaccuum canister or something like that to run it.

Would a jake brake work very well with a automatic? I know it would be nice on a manual tranny

Most hotshotters use an exhaust brake.. and most often they are automatics...

I don't think it matters

To rebuild the EBPV actuator right you will need this, in addition to the above kit ^^^: Riffraff Diesel: Exhaust Backpressure Valve piston rebuild kit Clay has everything you'll need.
