Door Glass

Hi All,

First time here in this area. I am not a body man by no means however I am kind of trying to expand myself. I am in the middle of a full rebuild of a 1989 F-250 Custom. I fully striped the truck to frame, had it sand blasted, rebuilt the motor, had the transmission rebuilt, welded in new floor pans and I am starting to round the bend and made the final sprint home here. I found a "better" set of doors with no rot on the bottom. My problem now is the drivers door had very poor and scratched glass. I was so happy about solid doors, bought then, mounted, filled the extra holes from the chevy mirrors >.< sanded and primed the doors and it was standing inside the door with the paper still on the windows that I seen all the scratches in the glass.

Sorry all that for this: I still have the original doors. How hard is it going the be to remove the glass for the old door and install in the new door?

Thanks,

Remove the glass with the frame/regulator. Manual window regulators are not the same as electric, fyi.
Got any pics of the resto? We like project pics around here.

Its not hard at all. But when I do those, I also remove the wing vent window first, then remove the main glass in the door. But you will want to remove the regualtor from the glass before removing from the door.

Sorry no real pictures posted here however if you click on the F-250 under my name here I have posted a couple new photos of the project there. Please check them out if you have a chance.

as a side note I hope to remove the glass out of my old doors this weekend. I plan on stripping the doors down to nothing as I need the room.

Sounds like you're well on your way with this truck. Someone recently cautioned me that if I put in new glass, which I am thinking of doing, that the reason the windows are scratched to begin with, needs to be addressed.
Thouroughly clean any surface they may ride against of particles, sand, grit, etc. Otherwise, you will be facing the same problem in no time at all.

Thats sounds advice and I think I was one step ahead of you on that one. The outside trim / weather striping was all messed up and looks as the clips were ridding the window. I plan on replacing that before the trucks done. I am off the next few days with the holiday I hope to post a picture of how its looking soon.

In case someone was wondering I was able to strip the old doors down to a empty shell saving all the hardware and glass. Was pretty easy once I found all the small screws that held the wing window in place. Thanks to all who has helped so far and thanks to those that will help in the future!

Thanks It only took me 5 years to get to this point. Sucks when you start something like this and things happen to lose the extra money you had for such a project. But things are getting back to normal here and I hope to be ready for paint once the NE corner of Ohio warms up this spring.

Thanks but its dirty! LOL now there's a bunch of bondo dust and gray primer dust all over the place. I wish I had the money and time to have someone come in and help me organize the place better. However its roomy and is nice and warm in the winters here. Need more storage space With all the extras I have been stocking up on the last couple years I'm storing more and more outside.

Looking to buy or build ( build it will happen before I buy I think ) one of them shop air cleaners / filters.

Going thru the same thing. At least in the summer you can open the doors and use some fans to help suck the dust out.

very true I have been taking a couple box fans and taping a filter to the back side to try to catch some of the dust. Its helps but does a poor job as it does not move that much air. I have a hard time dropping $200 on a metal box with a blower and filter housing.

Check out flea markets and craigslist for fan units. My old neighbor had found a real decent fan that was 2 speed and 2 direction. It pulled alot of air and he only paid like $10.00 for it. We mounted it in the window and I built a box for in front to mount a HVAC filter on it. Worked great.
