Diablo tuner

When I got my new 03 V10 King Ranch I also got the Diablo Predator tuner from the owner. I finally got a chance to play with it for a few minutes and????? There are a LOT of options for all different things. I just put it on the 87 tune and adjusted the timing advance a bit due to some mild pinging I've noticed. What options have you guys out there used to get the most out of it? I'm looking for a tune to get the best economy/power out of it for daily driving. I would like to show the wife that this truck isn't as big of a gas hog as everyone says. BTW I KNOW it's not going to get 15-18 MPG but something in the 12-13 range would be nice. Thanks.

The stock diablosport canned tunes are horrible. I've about had enough with there so called 87 performance tune. I bought the diablosport for my dads 03' some years ago (05') because he wanted a tuner. The 87 performance tune pings like crazy empty and towing. So I took timing out of it 4 times until it went away. Then he goes to tow his boat and the truck pings horribly pulling the boat.

I have the U7152 version which is updated with the 87 octane performance tune vs the U7153 where you had to remove timing manually. So basically the tune is an 87 performance tune that is not setup for 87 fuel, WTF? Never had any pinging problems when I was running the SCT canned 87 tunes in my 04' with my Xcal2 or the custom tunes I'm running now.

Sorry to rant a little but I'm just warning you. Make shure you listen close for pinging when you tow with the truck and take the tuner along with you to back off the timing. Horrible tunes.

I'm going to try and sell the diablosport tuner and get an SCT. I could get custom tunes but I'd rather go SCT with custom tunes.

You don't have to touch anything but the spark advance in both idle-3k rpm and 3k-6k rpm. But I have no idea how they have the fuel setup in the 87 performance tune, fuel could be part of the pinging problem. I wish you luck man.

As far as the performance and economy tunes go you have to pick one or the other. An economy tune for better mpg is not going to yield the best performance.

Funny, I have the SCT X3 custom 87 performance tune from Mike at 5-star, and I can play with the timing, advancing it, datalog the knock sensor, see pinging going on, and then it pulls the timing back.

Interesting that the Diablo is so far advanced that it pings with the knock sensor working, or does it disable the knock sensor totally?

The knock sensor will only take out so add so much timing. I could datalog with the diablo but I don't have the cable or software installed on my computer for it. Its my dads truck and his DD so I really don't have lots of time to screw with it. The diablosport has all the adjustments my SCT X2 has with slight differences. The thing is with the diablos timing adjustments I have no clue how much I'm really adjusting the timing because the graduations are screwy, percentage or something. I suspect the diablos fuel table is out of whack too. Just poor tuning on their part, I can understand maybe getting a tiny bit of ping because trucks can vary but it is that much that they screwed with something they shouldn't have.

There is a definate difference from stock vs the diablo 87 perf tune and there are a lot of adjustable parameters. Diablosport should not be selling a tuner with a tune that has that much knock. There are probably a lot of people out there who don't know any better and run the tune as is with lots of knock. Too much knock can cause damage.

The diablos 87 perf tune doesn't even come close to 5-stars performance tune. The 5-star tune will run away from the same truck with the diablo tune.
