questions....

whats the best "bang for the buck" on more horse and torque?
as far as single items or combined set ups
im wanting to get rid of the gov in the computer first and foremost then get some more speed out of the 5.4L
by the way its a 98 ext cab with a 5.4L and auto
anything and everything will be taken in to consideration and appriated

More speed out of it??? What is the governor set at like 100mph??? These trucks have no business going that fast on public roads. Brakes and suspensions were never meant for it, that is why there is a limiter. You want to go fast? Buy a cheap used Porsche 944 and join the PCA. Do it on a track, in a car meant for it. I don't mean to sound preachy but over 100 mph in one of these trucks is just plain stupid.

I agree, trucks are front heavy and unbalanced. They ride high and the suspension is meant to handle weight, not to keep the tires on the ground. They have a severe oversteer dendency because of their weight distribution. The built in governor is already plenty high.

The only real reason you should add power is more getting up to highway speed in 5-7 seconds (Just tossing out numbers here) that and of course bragging rights.

supercharger and a tune.
then you'll need a new drivetrain components to handle it.
re-gear it to really get the seat of the pants feel.

complete swap from a lightning or HD.

Then again, no point in going that fast unless at the strip.

I think adding power would be fun. I am considering the same. Headers are a goood option, though probably no fun to install. A custom tune is worth a little, and gearing as mentioned. I've checked out used SC set-ups, that would be awesome since I drive high mtn passes often. Still dont see the need to drive this pig over 100 though.

There aren't any cheap speed fixes though. 20-30hp isn't going to really blow you away or feel like money well spent. Supercharger is the one you would feel but that is going to cost more than what the truck is worth.
