I don't recommend leaving the IPR hooked up more than 1 minute. And yes, a competant diesel technician will be able to tell the difference between a high pressure pump and an IPR valve. You might have a high pressure oil leak causing this issue as said before. Might need a new STC fitting. There is no oil leaking on the back of the engine/top of the trans is there? I've seen some stc fittings bust the rear cover above the trans/passenger side. (its not likely but have seen it before). What year model truck is it? A high pressure pump failure is not all that common on the new build 6.0 diesels with the newer pumps.
