Engine problem

Engine problem

My 97 7.3L Powerstroke engine dies for no apparent reason when driving. Driving along take my foot off of the throttle and the engine dies(sometimes). when this happens the Tach reads rpm, wait to start light comes on and sometimes the check engine light comes on. No OBD2 codes. I have changed the fuel filter but it happened again. The engine acts normal otherwise. I know its not the CPS (blue one - about 1 yr old) because I get a tach reading. Truck is parked facing uphill - fairly steep - I sometimes have to put in 4wd to get out because it is a gravel drive. What should I look for?????????? HELP!!!

try checking the fuel pressure, at the FPR, your fuel pump could be dying

it maxes out my 50PSI gauge.
it takes it a while to do it - pumps it up - took a while about 10 psi at a time.
once I made a bad connection and fuel squirted out and the engine died.

I think I will clean the fuel bowl under the heater...

I hate to say it but it might be the tranny? is the O.D. lilight blinking and if you put it in rev. will it go forward? mine did and the torque converter was shot and put metal through out my tranny. I had it rebuilt with a high quality torque converter( so they say) It's been a great tranny so far (100,000 mi). just changed the filter and no metal! Make sure they flush the the tranny cooler or it will wreck your next tranny.

Intermittent Computer Reset, 95-01 F- and E-Series:
Check engine and wait to start lamps that cycle while driving with a momentary stumble and the accelerator pedal not responding until it is released may be due to a momentary short in the reference voltage supply to the sensors or a short or open in the battery voltage supply to the computer or IDM, or a short in one of the injector power supply circuits causing the computer to reset. This may not result in any trouble codes. Check TSB 97-15A for more info on this condition.
