A thickness no less than the thickness of your original frame material. Most use 1/8 or 3/16. You can cut it yourself, make patterns and have it cut at a metal shop, or purchase metal already cut for your application. Just depends on what tools you have and how deep your pockets happen to be.

Thanks, I have a friend that owns a welding shop and has some scraps I can pick through.

My MII crossmember came with 3/16 thickness. And use some cardboard are stiff paper and make patterns because the height of the rails do vary. Leckart was dead on it.

I just did my c-notch on my 55 f1oo and used 3/16 plate. It was the same thickness as what was used on my Mustang II install. Good luck!

Could anyone add comments about drain holes and so called lightning holes in the boxing plates. This is if you run boxing plates the full length. chuck

49fordpickumup-
I think that is personal preference. It seems to me more debris could get trapped behind the boxing plates if you did the lightning holes.
