ok, so my truck (91 nite 2wd 351 efi) decide to stall on me with no warning. no big deal, right? WRONG..... after a few days it kept getting worse then finally it would not start. but no engine light. now, if i can get it started, it only goes 30 mph and sounds like it is loading up really bad. i looked in the book and it refrences limp home mode. any ideas what could cause or how to solve it?
oh, i replaced o2's, egr valve, pcv, fuel filter, air filter, aic valve and cap rotor plugs and wires
I wouldn't worry about limp mode, but if you want to be sure disconnect the battery and touch the two cables together for a few seconds to wipe out the computer memory.
Have you ever adjusted timing on your truck or one like it?
Can you remove the catalitic converter easily it may be plugged.
i have not touched anything on the truck, it was free and it ran and smogged great, a few months later (now) its being a headache. but i never thought to check the cat. it may be welded on but i think i may be able to check it. so, if what i did already (tune up stuff) fixed the problem, i should try resetting the computer and it might work?
it works, i saw it intermittantly the first day it stalled. on for a few minutes and off for a few hours and so on. but i drove the ***** out of it trying to get it to throw a light again, like 12 miles chugging and bumping and backfiring with no light
Then all you gotta do to get the codes is tell the comp that you want them and count the flashes of the light. Can't remember right now what you gotta do to tell the comp to spit them out, pretty sure you gotta plug a jumper wire between to spots in a plug thats under the hood on your left fender. There's a how to somewhere on this forum.
