For some reason the driver side door on the truck in my sig wont open from the inside or outside anymore. Is their a way i can get it open to work on it? While im in there i would like to fix the power window for that side. The motor works, but the window doesnt move. Also wouldnt hurt to do something to the lock so it can be unlocked with the key from the outside. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
you should be able to remove the door panel with the door still closed (its a pain)....from there you should be able to figure out which one of the linkages are disconnected...You may be able to pull on the one that is near the door handle and get the latch to release, otherwise you will be stuck reaching in to pull it by hand.
ok i got the door panel half off (the most difficult job ive had to do on the truck so far). I cant get it off comepletely because i cant get to the screws in the front most part without having the door open. Now that I have enough room to get a hand in there, how the hell do I get this thing open? I can see the linkage that goes from the button on the outside of the door down to somewhere i cant see. I tried pushing it down with a long screwdriver to get it to open and got nothing. Also the cable for the inside handle is not broke on the handle end, as for the other end I cant tell.
Well ive got the door open. Managed to pry it open with a screwdriver. the little post that it latches onto was pushed too far in and was closing the door to tight. 2 minutes with a pair of pliers and the problems gone. Now does anyone have any ideas on the window? I know that the motor works. Is their some kind of key or something that connects the shaft of the motor to the gear that meshes with the large one that works the window? best i can tell the shaft and the gear are no longer connected.
The gears are metal, but there is a plastic cam-lock coupling (not sure if thats the correct term) that can strip out. Had this happen with mine. If you want, you can take the gearmotor apart and see the grease filled cavity of the coupler full of little plastic bits. In my case, I cut some 1/2 aluminum bar stock into little rollers to replace the stripped plastic ones. Worked perfectly. Any small round piece will work if you don't have aluminum. Preferably something fairly solid though. Light wall tubing will be crushed.
The motors are quite massive and can be overhualed. I wouldn't call them a throw away part and anything you get from the parts store probably won't be as good.
