the title pretty much sums it up, once in a blue moon i will be driving and look down at the dash and see that my GP light is on, and i know the plugs are not on because my volt gauge doesnt show it. if i stop and shut the truck off, fire it back up, no light and good to go. any ideas, everything seems fine with the truck, i just keep driving if i see it on. i think this has happened maybe 5 times in the last year.
anyone else have this happen and do i have a problem or maybe just a loose wire somewhere?
Maybe you have a wire that is exposed to the relay and it is contacting metal. That would cause the light just like it is energized. Someone else with more knowledge will chime in soon.
Hmmm, your glow plug light (aka wait to start light) on the dash is controlled by the PCM and doesn't reflect the true operation of the GPR. In another words, your GPR and glow plugs are on longer than the dash light is. Are you having any other electrical issues like flickering battery light or CEL?
The PCM controls the glow plugs, and like Chris said the light dose not mean the glow plugs are one. I would check for chaffed wires under the dash and around the GPR. You also might have some other electrical issues going on.
