synchronizer key, plate or insert ... replacement?

thanks Numberdummy, good to know the parts are still out there even if the accountants at Ford totally fubar'd the numbering system.

85e150, i toyed with the idea of swapping into a 5 speed or maybe even going down to a 3 speed for hauling but honestly, i dont know what would bolt up to what. i want to stick with the top loaders if at all possible. plus i think my tranfer cases shifter is mounted to the side of my tranni... do all tranni's have that mounting hole?

Maddragoon,
Did you get the tranny fixed without taking it apart how did it work?
I had the exact problem. I was able to replace one of the keys but couln't get the other 2 out. And I think it only has one spring ring in it now. It is driving but I can tell it's not happy. Any advise?

nah, i never got them replaced. it seems to drive fine without them. shifting into third is a bit... tricky... but it works. its been, what a year and a half now and its never slipped out of gear or anything and its very nearly a daily driver. if i hauled alot weight on a regular basis i'd be worried though.
