ford 302 cam????
My truck has 125,000 miles on it. Doesn't smoke, uses little to no oil. Sounds and runs like brand new. Would it be ok for me to just stick this cam in it? I know it's not a huge jump in performance, but I figured it'd be just fine.
I was thinking this cam, long tube headers (or short tube if LT headers are just too much trouble) going into a custom true dual exhaust with 2.5" pipes. I'm not picky, and 250 horsepower would be fine with me, along with that nice jump in torque. I don't feel that my engine needs a rebuild, or is anywhere close to needing a rebuild. I've just got a new job, and I've been wanting to spend some money on my truck. Not dump a ton of money into it, but just some small things like I mentioned.
Now, if the job goes well enough, sure, a 408W would be nice, but we'll see...
And it is a good idea to replace the timing chain and I prefer to upgrade it.
I'm looking at the comp 31-255-5 real close again. I almost had it before, but ended up buying a lot of stuff for the house. It's just as long as it'd be noticeable and I'd be pleased, I want to go for it.
Actually, I'm happy with my truck, I posted a vid to another guy and he said his truck ran the same. Shifted at 5200RPM and all, and his was an 85. I just want to see a vid of it to see how it is to mine. I've had a couple tell me that's not the way these trucks run, normally die around 4200RPM.. and I could 'possibly' have a cam or something different in it. My NP435 drives like a 3 speed, so I hope he posts a vid. If I do have a stock cam, I want a cam that will definitely make a difference. That graph shows a nice improvement in torque, as long as I'd feel it as good as it shows. At the same time.. my truck doesn't 'feel' like it has the little 5.0 under the hood in third gear at 1300 RPM like some make it sound.
