We pay $40/month for broadband wireless, 1mbps down and 768kbps up. It's horrible too because since it is wireless the speeds are not guaranteed so they vary usually for the worse. So this got me thinking, what are you guys speeds and prices per month?
If you don't know your speed you can check it here: Speedtest
I don't know why I didn't check mine when I started the thread but here is my "high speed" internet. It's almost laughable, but there is nothing we can do because we live in the country so this is the only option aside from satellite that we have. Plus i2k our ISP knows this and they do absolutely nothing to help us out.
I have the only DSL available to me -- and it uses a wireless setup from a transponder a couple of miles from my house. Works better than I thought it might.
I get around 2 meg down, but I think that my up is about 700 K. Not too important, I type slow .
I'm retired, and at first I couldn't get this service -- I actually signed up for it, and they called back and said well.... no. So, I'm glad to have it. It's fine for what I do.
Mediacom highspeed cable, wireless from maybe 50 feet (and 2 floors) away from my router. They have a 8MB/s minimal speed guarantee, I pay $29.99 a month.
EDIT:
Tried it with my laptop plugged directly into the modem, got a little bit faster...
I have dial up right now an i live in the country. I need high speed bad. I only pay $15.00 a month but I think everybody should have acess to high speed internet. So what would you guys think would be the best option for me to go?. Through a cellular phone,DSL or other options. Thanks guys for any help.
my mom has the verizon USB wireless card for her laptop, it's $60/month and is faster than dial up but still kinda slow. But she can take it anywhere that has cell service.
If your cell provider has a cable for your phone you might be able to tap into it easier and cheaper. I use to do it through Verizon...
