towing 18' car trailor when i suddenly lost right front headlight and left rear brake and hazzard. fuses are good, bulbs are good. F-250 5.8 2wd standard cab with single axle. Can anyone help????
I' thinking the main headlights switch burned out, or its wiring - what happens is the switch is nearly overloaded from the factory, and adding several running lights like many trailers have simply pushes the current draw through the switch over what the switch can handle. Trucks with factory tow package have a relay for that purpose, on most other trucks you have to add the relay yourself. Unfortunately you will have to pull the headlights switch to confirm any damage...
I tested the headlight switch with an ohmmeter and it was good. Replaced the switch anyway to be sure. Still same problem. When I installed the trailor harness on the truck and the trailor brake I did install a 30 amp breaker on the fender. I did not see a fuse box on the truck under the hood. I will look for it, but none of my books or owners manual refer to one. If it is the wireing burned out, what is the best way to check it?
yes, drvers side is on.i have full running lights and turn signals front and back, but no drivers side brake light or hazzard light on same side. all bulbs and fuses and relays check out o.k..
There is nothing common between the headlights and the hazard light on same side.
I would change the bulbs even if they look good.
If that does not do it get a test light and start checking the wiring.
The hazard light may be a bad turn signal switch on the column.
