Cool Dang!

Struck a muffler in traffic, it fell off the car in front of me while i was checking the mirror.
This caused the tread on the left rear tire to separate from the tire. the loose tread then flailed around the inside of the left rear quarter-panel and ripped both front and rear fuel fill tubes out destroying everything from the gas cap to the first rubber hose on both. It ripped out that Bar in front of the tire that attaches to the bottom of the quarter-panel. it also ripped up the trim around the wheel arch. the muffler tumbled and bent the floor in the left rear corner of the bed. the quarter panel is all bent up around the wheel arch and the fuel doors. I stopped and put the spare on and drove it home. I can no longer put fuel in the truck until repairs are made. and while typing this it occurs to me that I haven't seen if theres any other damage to the fuel fill that I cant see. like on top of the tanks. I have pics but cant attach them to this post for what ever reason. Im freakin heartbroken this was one of the nicest OBS I've seen. that why i bought it. All this because some nameless jerkoff didnt take the time to peek under the car once in a while.

I feel for you man! I recently had an incident with a deer. Blew my tire, trashed the tie rod. But you really got the screws on this one!

I too was trying to figure out how to post pictures. I went ahead and started a photobucket account and you can link them that way.

I once ran over a deer, it tried to stop and lost its footing, fell down and i ran over it. LOL, I didn't have any damage whatsoever. Sorry about the bad luck guys, but its refreshing to know that i'm not the only one with bad luck.

That is to bad Ken, Did you get a tag# ? If not I bet you could be at the same Bat channel at the same Bat time tomorrow and look/listen for the loud car go by and get it. Insurance is a nessicary evil thing to have and if he is tagged he is insured. Good luck!

I feel for you too Ken. I didn't mess up my truck yet but on my 5th wheel camper on both sides now I've blown tires that had the thread come off and tore the hell out of the wheel wells. Also, everything behind the wheel wells got tore up bad. **** me off!!! It costs as much to insure a camper as it does a house so of course I didn't insure mine. Its covered liability wise if its attached to my pickup so I never bothered. Oh well

sorry to hear that ken,
I have the same damage on my truck from a general tire throwing the tread at 65 mph, I sent a request to general to pay for it and they replied that the tire was defective and that they would pay $250.00 if I sent them a signed notarized form stating that I nor any family member could ever sue general tires or be part of a class action law suit, I told them no and that I would keep the letter and wait for a class action suit.

Thank You AAA!

falls under my collision coverage. since it wasn't my fault, no deductable. $30 a day for a rental.
And thanks to Mountaineer27 that was a heck of a nice thing to do. You ROCK man! but it turns out i wont have to fix any of this myself.

I will hang on to that general tire just in case. I'm replacing all 5 tires behind this mess. any suggestions on tires? the ones Im replacing are a street tire. I want a more aggressive tread on my new ones. winters commin not to mention this truck will no doubt find its self on a trail or two especially in the next few months. I've looked at goodyear but its close to a grand for 5 tires. I have no problems with that. but which ones do you all recomend? Are any still made in america? I sure would like it if I could buy american here. Load rating E

no problem. glad that they will cover it. i know how you feel. about three years ago i was going fish down county in pa and a big rig hualing a dozer came arond a corner fast with a chain hanging about 5 ft out from the truck. right throught the windshield rapped around the post and ripped the post and door clean of my truck. not to mention the stitches from it

Took it to the local Ford stealership since theyre a "Direct Repair Shop" Been waiting on a call from them. Enterprise has a desk in the lobby of the dealership service center and they also have a direct thing with my insurance so I got a loaner. as I said insurance covers $30 a day for a rental so I got a 09 F150 for $35 It was ether that or be forced to get hyundai all over my driveway. (since my wife works for Ford I thought I'd better not if I wanted any kind of affection later.)
What a Nice ride. and tough. its got a really nice exhaust note. even a place to plug in my ipod. for a truck it rides alot like a car or SUV. you know the 4X4 sticker on the top of the rear quarters... um... yeah... thats the size of the bed. they steal it from a sport trac? and this one doesnt have a rear window that opens so hauling anything more than groceries aint happenin. but real nice anyways.

Tires: I love my BFG AT. I've put them on 3 differnt trucks now. Great in the winter, not bad highway mileage (about 18). Keep them rotated and they last quite a while.
