misfires under load

i have a 2008 f350 that when towing a small load or large it appears to sputter just before a downshift and when it does downshift it misfires really bad, blows black smoke and after a while it will clear up and performe like it should. i have taken it to the shop and it is not giving any kind of code, so there you are, no help from ford.
has anyone out there experienced this same problem?

Thanks, Mike

Given the nature of the fuel injection system, I doubt there's a significant problem without it throwing a code.

What are your boost pressures looking like?

If you're seeing black smoke there's likely an issue with your DPF. Have you recreated the problem in front of a technician? Is it consistent?

6.4 misfire

no i have not been able to create this problem in front of a technician, they are unable to acknowledge it does this. The problem is not consistant, only when towing and not all the time, only when pulling a hill and it needs to downshift. i have not paid any attention to the boost, atleast not yet!
